Half Truth | Nadia Mahjouri
In conversation with Rachel Edwards. A daughter searches for her father; a mother for her…
Author Jennifer Livett, as an academic, has spent much of her professional life researching Australia’s colonial past and its effects. Now, for the first time, she has turned her hand to fiction in this remarkable retelling of the arrival to Van Diemen’s Land of Sir John and Jane Franklin, and the tumult surrounding their time in the colony.
All of which is observed by Harriet Adair, who has come to the island with Mrs Anna Rochester, a suspected madwoman recovering from years living in the attic of ‘Thornfield Hall’. With consummate skill, Livett links the worlds of Tasmania’s past with threads from the Bronte classic Jane Eyre in considering the human cost of colonisation.
To launch Wild Island, Jennifer will be joined by renowned Hobart-based poet Sarah Day.
