Children’s book creators Fiona Levings and Anne Morgan will lead kids through a fun session on writing and illustrating their own Tasmanian picture books.
Fiona’s picture book, Now and Then, features the house and the community she lives in, while Anne’s The Way of the Weedy Seadragon tells of a fascinating sea creature that lives in the cool of Tasmanian waters. These titles have both been judged ‘Notable Books’ in the Children’s Book Council of Australia Eve Pownall Awards for non-fiction.
Anne and Fiona will read their picture books aloud before kids are asked to think about their own Tasmanian story. From there they will get to design a cover illustration, and draft some text for their story.
Fiona and Anne will then discuss storyboarding, and how storyboards can help children (and adults) complete their very own Tasmanian picture books.
This free workshop will run for about an hour in the bookshop, and would suit kids aged 7 and up.
*This event has been kindly sponsored by the CBCA and TasWriters.
